The School of Hawaiian, Asian and Pacific Studies (SHAPS) is delighted with the possibility of working with you and welcoming your students to Hawai'i. This section is designed to assist you in preparing a proposal to your home institution as well as to provide more information about our program.

Academic Program Details

Course Credit The Short-term of Hawai'i program does not offer University of Hawai'i credit or transfer credit. Academic credit should be arranged through your home institution.

Grading and Class Assignments Students participating in the Short-term in Hawai'i program will not receive grades from University of Hawai'i faculty members. All grading is at the discretion of the faculty leader from your institution. In addition, class assignments will be handled by the faculty leader of the students. University of Hawai'i faculty members will not administer examinations or quizzes to participants of the program.

Readings and Textbooks Per request, we will offer readings in support of the scheduled lectures. Should your institution request a textbook for the course, we will make recommendations and arrangements to have copies available in the University of Hawai'i bookstore. All textbook requests should be made at least 3 months prior to the start of the program in order to guarantee availability.

Computer Labs and Libraries Students will have access to the University of Hawai'i computer labs (Macintosh and PC), and the libraries on campus with their University of Hawai'i Temporary ID Cards. Please note that computer lab hours are shorter during the month of January and the end of May, and access to computers, should students need extensive access, is limited. Students must furnish their own paper in order to print in the computer labs.

Fieldtrips and Admission Fees All ground transportation and admission fees to scheduled fieldtrips for student participants and faculty leaders are covered by the program fees. The program fees do not cover ground transportation or admission fees for guests of program participants. Guests include family members and friends of students or faculty leader(s).
